  • Remove Child Domain or Add to parent domain

    HI All,

    I got one child domain in remote site. They got 1x AD and 1x AD/exchange servers.

    Our main office got Exchange 2003 enterprise edition and 2 x windows 2003 AD Server.

    We got IPVPN (2MB) and all the internet traffic going from main office.

    Internet<------>Main Domain (4.x)<----->VPN 2MB<----->Child Domain(56.x)

    Now my child domain AD/exchange server died but users can login to the domain.
    Now my problem is Email?

    So can i migrate to parent domain and remove child ? and use the parent exchange server and migrate mail box? what is the best way to solve my problem or step?
    all the H/W are very old and can get 1 server with free vmware server?

    Please happy to give any info and please help ...

      You do not need to migrate. User from child domain can have a mailbox on Exchange server in parent domain - Exchange is a forest-wide application.

        Re: Remove Child Domain or Add to parent domain

        HI All,

        Thanks, But if we create new mailbox in parent domain for each user then they need to set their parent domain logon details ( username,Password) on outlook. Then this is going to be pain full.

        Anyway now i managed to mount old exchange server temp and all the users can use their mail. But this server need to replace or move all the mailbox to parent server.

        So what is the best way to do this?

        1. move mailbox from childdomain to parent exchange server

        2. then move users to parent domain

        3. help?
