  • Configure a Raid 1 and a Raid 10 on server

My company is going to buy a new Exchange server. Here is what we're getting:

    http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/def...iew-_-Main+Tab

We will be running Windows 2003 and Exchange 2007 on the new server

My question I have 2 72GB SAS Hard drives and I would like to set a Raid 1 on those hard drives for the operating system only.

Then on my 4 300GB 3.5 SAS 15K hard Drives I would like to set a Raid 10.

I would like to do this configuration before we start the migration. What are the steps to accomplish this task?

not too familiar with the machine, but the specs do not mention a real raid controller anywhere

if you do have a proper raid controller, everything is very easy.

brandname servers come with an installation CD that provides you with the GUI to perform everything before you install the OS.

do not touch the dynamic disk software raid options, use the raid controller, especially with SAS, where you can do drive roaming.

OS on raid1 and data store on a high performance raid10 or raid5 (4 disks are pretty fast with raid5, performance starts dropping after around 6-7 disks) are a pretty common practice.

if it was a dell server, the place to look for instructions would be here:

Should I install just the 2 hard drives first configure it as a Raid 1. Then after Iím finish with that install the other 4 hard drives and configure as a Raid 10?

I left something out when I configure the 2 hard drives should I install Windows 2003 server and when I configure the Raid 10 then I should install the Exchange Server 2007 to the Raid 10 hard drives. Is that how I should do it?

When booting the server you will have the option to enter Option Rom Configuration for Arrays (ORCA) to configure arrays and logical drives.

setu up the hardware, install the OS, configure the storage raid array and install the app.
                  nothing difficult to it
