  • DHCP server can handle MAC?

    hi all,

    I want to ask u somethings. In my working place, most of the pcs are using wireless with DHCP. I have DHCP infrastructure already. i want to generate IP by DHCP with MAC. If the MAC is not match, i don't want to lease any IP and access.
    eg... jf049d9f8ri4 is trusted MAC.
    if9d0f8g9f0s is Unknown MAC.
    I want to generate IP address for jf049d9f8ri4 only.

    Can i make what i want in DHCP server in 2003?
    If yes, pls guide me how to make.

    thanks

    Yes, you can. If you ran a search you would have found it, because i allready replied that a few times.

    The thing you want to use, is called reservations.

    First design a DHCP scope to match the number of computers that will use this infrastructure, than set a reservation for every available IP within that scope to a computer that will be connecting.

    When a computer connects that is unknown, it will not get an IP as all available IP's our bind to a reservation. When a computer logs on that is known it will get its predefined IP. When ussing this methode you will also know which computer has which IP. The downside is the administrative burdom.

    For example:

    You have 10 computers
    Design a scope ->Start IP:192.168.1.100 - End IP:192.168.1.110
    Create 10 reservations:
    1= 192.168.1.100 -> 000F01A1FF39
    2= 192.168.1.101 -> 00............
    Etc
