  • Questions regarding Robocopy

    Hello All,

This is my first post here, so I'll try to make it a good one.

I have a file server running Windows Server 2003 and recently purchaced an HP NAS device for storage/redundancy. I have a folder on the server from which I would like to archive subfolders that have not been used in over 6 months.

Robocopy seems right for the job, but I'm having troubles with finding the correct syntax. I would like to be able to specify the source folder and have the tool find subfolders not used for 6 months, move them to the NAS device's share, and then delete the subfolder from the original location.

    Here's the syntax I tried:

robocopy "local path of source folder" "UNC path to NAS share" /E /MOVE /MINLAD:180

Currently, this moves all folders with no regard to last access date and also deletes the parent source folder. Neither of which are what I want.

Am I missing something? Can someone help point me in the right direction?

    Regards,
    Mike

I thought the switch was /minage:180 instead of /minlad?

From what I've read, MINAGE sorts by date created, and MINLAD sorts by date modified.

      I will try MINAGE.

Perhaps there's a better way for me to do this?

It appears to be working better than MINLAD on small tests. I'm going to try it on a larger test to see how things fare. I'll keep you posted.

Strange, for sure, but I'll take it moving them by creation date as long as it moves something!

          Thanks,
          Mike
