  • Server 2003 Rename Member Server problem...

We have Windows server 2000 set up and currently running on the domain, and I've been tinkering with 2k3 for the past 2 weeks - I now want to rename the server to make it easier to access in terms of web hosting, but the system won't let me. The 2k3 server is set under local computers on the domain, so I know its not a DC...

Searches on MSDN and pretty much everywhere else have come up dry...

    Any suggestions?

    Can you be more specific?

This is how I would do it.
    - remove the server from the domain (boot)
    - rename (boot)
    - join domain (boot)

Make sure the server isn't a certifcation authority. If it is remove this role from the server before renaming it.

        Thanks...

wkasdo, your solution was the winning one... it hit me late in the afternoon that perhaps I should use my head and work around it... removed from the domain and viola, it worked...

So you just added the wk3 as a member server to the win2k domain without running ADPREP steps?

About 2 years ago, yes, it looks they did.
            1 1 was a racehorse.
            2 2 was 1 2.
            1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
            2 2 1 1 2
