  • PING problems on Windows 2003 server sp2 standard

We have a workgroup network at work, and we have a desktop machine running Mdaemon for e-mails, which everyone collectecs by pointing ip address to the machine running Mdaemon.

We have replaced the desktop machine with Win 2003 server, working on workgroup, exactly as the old desktop machine, IP address and network settings are exactly as the previous desktop.

All the machines in the office can ping this machine and collect e-mails succesfully.

we also have a ISDN line to the IOW where we have our warehouse, this enables them to run our wahouse management system which we have a seperate server, and from this ISDN connection, users on the IOW also collect e-mail via IP address from OUtlook.

However the IOW cannot ping to this IP address, (same as it was on old desktop machine), but if using the old machine it works fine.

Is win 2003 blocking the IOW connection attempt? or is there something else that i'm missing.

    Many thanks

    Ash

Is the Windows firewall enabled on the 2003 machine?

It sounds to me like the MAC address for the old server is cached somewhere. Check the MAC address tables on your switches, router, firewall, ISDN modem, etc.
