  • What happened to my encrypted files in Vista?

    Hello,

I applied "encrypted contents to secure data" feature to "my documents" folder in Vista thinking so long as I'm logged in, I will have access to them.

It turned out not to be the case. In fact, even after I disabled the feature, I can not access my files.

    What did I do wrong?

The main reason why people don't use EFS is because of this.
Normally every inbuilt administrator account is a member of Recovery Agents (Accounts which can be used to recover encrypted stuff)
Try recovering your Docs by logging in as the inbulit administrator account.

You can also try this : http://www.pr.com/press-release/31464

      Born2achieve,

Thank you for the pointer and the link!

What was odd is that not all the files were rendered unreadable, just some of them. So, this is a know issue?

If thats the case, I suggest that you try changing the security permissions on one of the files to the inbuilt administrator account and then try opening them.
