  • 2k3 Std SP2 to 2k3 R2

Is there a way to upgrade Server 2003 standard SP2 to Server 2003 R2?

MS seems to focus on SP1 to R2 but our servers are SP2 and they want us to start implementing the DFS technology.

    TIA.

What happens when you insert the R2 disk into the drive?
    1 1 was a racehorse.
    2 2 was 1 2.
    1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
    2 2 1 1 2

R2 is a separate path then the SP1 to SP2.
It was released in between but is not dependent on one or the other.
FYI: It is not available for general download.

      and there is always FRS.......

        Nothing... It just hangs.

          ...correct

Some of the MS documentation seems to be vague enough to indicate that if you do have SP1 you can run the R2Auto.exe on the second CD to upgrade. When we do this, we run into issues (primarily no response, just hangs)

          and

Just wondering if we're missing something. We have one IT person saying it's a different OS and a different build.

Just trying to make sure we're not misunderstanding the MS docs.

Oh, that's not my understanding of R2 - on the R2 CD it says "R2 Technologies CD" and I have always seen it as a set of optionally installable features, rather than a different OS.

Does the system hangs, does the installer hangs or do you just have an High CPU usage?
What kind of hardware do you have?

Edit: it's an addition and not a new build. However, on DC's you need a schema extension.
