  • Running an Application as a Service:

I have a Windows 2003 server that I need to run an application as a service. At this point, I am leaving a session open so the application will continue to run. Does anyone know how to do this or a program that I can look into that will allow this to happen? I appreciate the help!

Re: Running an Application as a Service:

You can use the "sc" command to set up your server to run the application as a service. An example might go something like this:

sc <servername> create newservice binpath= c:\nt\system32\newserv.exe (or wherever the executable for the application lives on the server)

Here is a microsoft kb article for reference

I forgot to mention this has to be run from the command line. sc used to be a resource kit utility but it is now included in the base install of windows 2000/2003/XP
