  • Folder Encryption

We have a client who wants us to store their data "at rest" encrypted. This is data that resides on our Windows 2003 R2 file server. There is a file share that has a folder for each client -- we need to encrypt the folder for this one particular client.

We looked into the Windows EFS, but ran into some issues. We opened up a Microsoft Web case and they told us that we must use roaming profiles for EFS.

Is that true? I seem to get conflicting information by reading the documentation.

Is there an easier way to encrypt a single folder off a file share?

You may want to look at using pgp. The PGP desktop suite has the ability to encrypt files that reside on a file share and key management is easier. I use at my place of employment.
