  • RIS (Remote Installation Service) Problem

    Hi
    i am trying to get my RIS server working and it just dont wana work.
    i am getting a ip from the DHCP but TFTP fails i get there time out.
    the infrastrukture here is
    DC = 2003 server
    Exchange = 2003
    and normal things like filer server and ...
    and we are working with no VLANS... normal flat network.

    ok i explain what i have tryed
    installation of server 2003 and tryed to install RIS service... but it failed. i tryed X times and i was getting errors (you need administrative rights on this maschine to install this service) ofcource i have checked if i am administrator... and yes i was and i tryed with DC admin too but it fails... ok i formated the server 2003 and installed server 2000 and installed RIS Service with no errors. and installed adminpak.msi
    i tryed in active directory users and computers.... in computers i browsed to the ris server and maked verify server.... and it was ok i dident get any errors and i have maked network boot disks with ghost with the correct nic driver for my client maschine (yes i have tryed to boot with them) and have installed them on the ris server image file....

    i have enabled debug mode on the RIS server i have log files but i dont realy understand them... if some 1 wana take a look at them tell me

    thx for any help i am going crazy here

    so...

    if you have a RIS server working now, what is the problem ?
    working it on 2003 ?

    try installing it on a NON-DC Server...

      the RIS server is not working.
      i am trying to boot a client pc from the netrwork (F12) and i am getting a ip but after that TFTP timeout.

      the RIS server is not a DC its just a domain member

      thx

        ...

        the only issue that comes to my mind is that is something wrong with your RIS config, since you see it in AD, and you have communications with it from the network.

        i suggest checking the listner definitions again, and also check the IP and subnet defenitions configured on the BOOT disks...

          maybe i should just install a fresh OS on the server and configure it again?
          becouse i have changed to much.

          wish OS should i install? server2003 or server 2000
          (i know that server 2003 making me trouble installing RIS service)

          and maybe you have a step by step how to?
          i tryed some MS how to's but i dident get far.
          THX

          EDIT: i have checked the RIS options from
          AD--->computers---->RIS server TAB and i have configured to respond to all clients
