  • USB Backup Drive

I'd like to backup a 2003 Server with a 250GB usb backup drive - but I can't find software that will backup a Server - and I don't think NT Backup is a good option.

Anyone out there have any suggestions?

What is your problem with NTBackup?

I like flat file backups - I'm not a big fan of the "1 giant file" backup - you never know what you have......

Then there is nothing much better than ROBOCOPY - included with the resource kit or support tools I can never remember which. It's a complex tool with some powerful options and you should therefore read the help that comes with it carefully.

Tip: Use Robocopy to copy the empty folder structure FIRST because this will avoid copying fragments as they are; populating an existing file structure with files does it in an "unfragmented" fashion whereas copying the whole lot at once leaves the fragmentation intact.

p.s. why not try WINZIP? It's like a big file backup that you can easily examine the contents of...

What do you want to backup?
          Why not using tapedrives?

I'd use NTbackup for the server's configs backup, and take the rest with zip or rar (if you don't like NTbackup)
