  • dc full computer name is flate

    hi all

    in a lab invironment
    i have a domain controller with server 2000
    right now this is the only dc and i have a dns issue

    i found that in the full computer name there is just
    a netbios name, and not the fqdn.

    i think that is why i cant fix the dns using netdiag
    delete and create the zone didnt help either

    is there is a way to fix this

    thanks

      Is there something preventing you from setting a FDQN on the problem machine? I'm no expert with AD, but I think it should take whatever it gets from the client providing there's no conflict.

        Have you tried adding the DNS suffix onto the network card of the server??

        See the attached image.

          thanks all for the answers

          like wullieb1 says it seems to be a suffix issue.
          the checkbox under
          my computer -> properties -> computername ->
          change -> more
          there is a check box
          "change primary dns suffix when domain memebership changes'
          this was off.
          i found this after remove the AD
          since i had 2000 and this button is not available.

          thanks
