  • Migrate Windows 2000 server to Windows 2003 server stand ED

    Hallo
I have 1 windows 2000 server with SP 4 as Domain Controller in my company
I would like to remove this server and to use a new win2000 server instead
how can I config the new 2003 server as domian controller to take all the users account settings so that on the next morning users log on to the
domain without any feel that they are on windows 2003 server.

I was thinking that to create an additional domian controller and then to upgrade it with windows 2003 server and son

Please if any one can write down the steps it will be a great favour

    thank's

I think it's time to RTFM a bit.

Installing a new DC is not that hard, and in fact can be done with no downtime of any kind. However installing the first WIN2003 DC does need some planning, especially with ADPREP and so on.

I would suggest installing the new WIN2003 as a member server, opening the local HELP on it and reading a bit. Then run ADPREP /FORESTPREP on the W2K Schema master, replicate to all DCs, run ADPREP /DOMAINPREP on the PDC emulator, replicate, and promote the WIN2003 to DC.
    Cheers,
