    Hey Everyone!

I'm new to a company and need to set up roaming profiles so users can use any machine. I have created a share folder on the domain controller:
    \\<server>\<shared folder>

and set the following in the user profile:
    \\<server>\<shared folder>\user

The problem is that there is no actual roaming profile. I receive this error when the user logins in:

"Windows cannot update your roaming profile. Possible causes of this error include network problems or insufficient security rights. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator. "

I am using a test user in order to get this going so as to not intrude on active users (I know this should always be done but I'm giving all info). The permissions are that EVERYONE has permission to the <shared folder>.

I have no idea why this is happening so any help will be great!
    Thanks

Re: Roaming profiles in Win2k (server) and XP Pro (workstations)

What kind of permissions do "Everyone" have on the shared folder? Share permissions?

You also need to set the NTFS permissions to "List folder contents" for "Everyone" on the shared folder and "Modify" for the individual user for the profile folder within it.

\\server\users$ - Share perms "Everyone" "Full Control". NTFS perms "Everyone" "List folder contents"

\\server\users$\username - no share perms - "Username" "Modify".

It turned out to be a configuration on the actual server.

        Thank-you for your help

Would you mind telling us what it was that was wrong? It may well help future people with a similar problem

          Thanks

            Oh sorry! Of course!

The old administrator had set up a group profile that never actually worked, so it never registered when i was trouble shooting. I found it and disabled it so then the profiles I created worked perfectly.

            Thanks for the Help!
