  • Adding Windows 2003 R2 DC

    Hi there,

I currently have a Windows 2003 SP2 DC, and I would like to add a Windows 2003 R2 x64 DC, but I am getting errors when attempting to add the new server.

    I get the following error:

    The operation failed because:

The Active Directory Installation Wizard cannot continue because the forest is not prepared for installing Windows Server 2003. Use the Adprep command-line tool to prepare both the forest and the domain. For more information about using the Adprep, see Active Directory Help.

"The version of the Active Directory schema of the source forest is not compatible with the version of Active Directory on this computer."

I have run the ADPREP tool on the existing Domain Controller with no errors.

    Any suggestions?

    Many thanks

Put the R2 disc in the existing server and do

    D:\CMPNENTS\R2\ADPREP>adprep /forestprep

      Thanks for the reply.

Amazingly enough that is what I have been doing. And after the 18th attempt, and restarting the server in between attempts, the new server is finally a domain controller.

Weird, but at least it finally worked.

      Thanks again.
