  • Problems with server 2003/win xp pro VPN

I have a windows domain server, running server 2003, and a windows xp pro laptop. I have vpn and rras setup on my server, and then the vpn connection configured on the laptop. I can connect to the vpn on the laptop, and it shows that it is connected, and i even get an ip, but i can't connect to any network drives, or ping/connect to any of the network computers. I get an ip address, but the server address is not that of the domain server, it is another random ip address in my range (192.168.0.*). I don't know what i am doing wrong.

    Any ideas?

    Hi,

Check if IP Routing is enabled. First try to assign a small ip range from your domain first.
I think that you will need to create a static route to the other subnet (192.168.0..1/24).

I am sorry to be such a noob, but i can't seem to get static routes configgured correctly. The laptop is getting an ip, but the default gateway and the ip are always the same. the vpn subnet mask is 255.255.255.255, while the rest of the local network are 255.255.255.0.

could you please be more specific in what to do, or point to an article.

      thanks

        Hi.
In the Routing and Remote access console, expand the server, expand IP Routing and then right click and Select New Static Route and add the route.

The windows help in remote access console can also give some help

            if it takes ip address
1.check ipconfig/all for which server has assigned an ip
            2. check the wheather the firewall is stopping u to reach since u said it has taken an ip fron the server
3.check is there any configuration problem if u r assiged by APIPA
