  • CALS - Stupid Question

    Greetings,
We have acquired a server with Windows 2003 Server Standard on it.
It has a 5 user license.

We have 35 users/computers on our network. I need to purchase
    30 user CAL's right ?

    thanks,
    D

      Re: CALS - Stupid Question

And when you do buy them, all you get is pieces of paper which you keep safe - you do not get a licence code to enter into the system, you are just trusted to keep the count of CALs on the pieces the same or more than the number of people using the system.

(btw this is different from the way it works in SBS - there you have to type in the licence codes and activate them).
      Best wishes,
      PaulH.

Got my "piece of paper". Went and looked at the eopen.microsoft.com. It has a start date and end date. The end data is 2 years from now. Does this mean I have to pay for my CAL's again every 2 years ?

        thanks.
Microsoft's licensing is confusing as heck.

No, CALs are for life and do not need to be renewed, so you're OK.
          Best wishes,

            UNDERSTATEMENT

What this means is that you have bought Volume Licensing over the minimum of 5 units and for the next two years, you can add single units of whatever you need. After the 2 years you need buy a minimum of 5 units again.

Iím honoured to have been selected for the SMB 150 list for 2013. This is the third time in succession (no logo available for 2011) that I have been honoured with this award.
