  • Accessing Shared Folder Problem

    Hi Gurus

I have a server machine where Windows Server 2003 is installed. On another machine installed with Windows Server 2003, there is a shared folder. When I try to access the shared folder from my 1st server it gives me the following error.

I have logged on both servers using administrator account and have given full permission to the shared folder but I am unable to solve this issue. Anyone please suggest some solution to this issue.

    thanks in advance.

    Re: Accessing Shared Folder Problem

Well, first, you could tell us what the error is. You forgot.

Second, you could tell us what relationship the two servers have to each other - are they in AD? Are they in the same forest/Domain? Are you logged in with a Domain user account?

There is WOEFULLY insufficient information in this post and you likely won't get any help until you fix that.

      Re: Accessing Shared Folder Problem

Thanks for your interest in my query.
Well sir I receive the following message box when I try to access the shared folder.
      .
The shared folder name is PDCC Software. The two computers are part of a single domain. the machine where the shared folder is located is the DC and the other one from where I am accessing the folder is ADC. However the AD is not properly installed on my ADC. The ADC is acting as proxy server for the internet in my organization.

      thanks

        Re: Accessing Shared Folder Problem

Try putting quotes around the UNC path since you have a space in your share name.

        "\\server\PDCC Software"

Tried but it came up with a message box saying:

          \\server\PDCC Softwares
Logon Failure: The target account name is incorrect

When logged on the box where there share is as Admin, can you view the permissions?

Can you access the share via the ip address? If so, then you probably have a SPN problem. If not, then you probably have an SMB signing problem.

My apologies; my organisation is blocking the imageshack location so I can't see the image until I go home; it's coming up as a tiny white dot.

Well sir when I tried using IP address it opened. . Would you please further elaborate what are SPN and SMB.
                  thanks for the nice reply.

yes definitely the server name is just server and the IP address of my server is 10.1.101.1. Here is the result of pinging:

Pinging 10.1.101.1 with 32 bytes of data:

                      Reply from 10.1.101.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
                      Reply from 10.1.101.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

                      Reply from 10.1.101.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

                      Ping statistics for 10.1.101.1:
                      Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
                      Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

                        Hi, Curious.
The command wullieb1 asked you to run was ping -a ipaddress . The -a parameter tries to resolve the name of the server by it's IP address. The output you posted is either incomplete or not of the right command.
Can you please run the command again?

Regarding your previous question, see this articles:
                        - SMB;
                        - SPN (I am not certain, I hope this is what joeqwerty meant).

Just try with the FQDN then let us know the result this will help us to further elaborate the prob.

                          E.g: "\\server.xyz.com\pdcc softwares"

I did the same using -a in my ping command. here is the actual screen-shot of the command so that you can verify yourself.

I used FQDN name but I got the same message box saying "Logon Failure: The target name is incorrect". But I am now able to access the shared folder using IP Address.

This only shows that you do have a name resolving issue.
I would run nslookup server and nslookup [FQDN server name] and see if the DNS is configured properly.
