  • Control Panel problem, please help

    Hi, all!

Got a funny problem w/Control Panel in Adv Server. After installing a number of apps, including ACDSee 5.0, Paint Shop Pro 7.0, Adobe Reader 6.0 and Office (XP or 2003), when I try to open Control panel an "explorer exe" error message appears saying " The instruction xxxxx tried to access memory address xxxx. The memory could not be "read" ". This leaves CPanel w/the upper 4 or 5 icons (incluidng Add/Remove Programs) not showing; it also freezes CPanel so that nothing can be done, and eventually it freezes the machine.

Can this problem be repaired w/o reinstalling everything from the ground up?

    Greets

    Did you try running SFC?

      Found out what it was...

Well, after breaking my head and cursing billg I finally found out what it was: the new, Windows Update-supplied driver for the Nvidia Geforce 2 video cards. Installed the latest Nvidia detonator drivers, problem solved. Be careful w/those update settings, they can ruin your machine!
