  • Random access denied issues in Windows Server 2003

    Hi All,

I have a windows 2k3 server R2 configuerd as a domain conroller with 34 domain users in the active directory, on the DC Exchange Server 2003 is installed on the same DC. I have no backup DC, my network structure consists of only one Server.

Recently, domain users can not access mapped drives to the server or any shares. I can not add users to the domain when this happens. This issue happenes randmoly and wont resolve untill i restart the server. I suspect it could be DNS related.

Any suggestion of how to resolve this issue?

    Thank you

Re: Random access denied issues in Windows Server 2003

First of all check the eventlogs on the server just after it happens. also try running netdiag and dcdiag from the windows 2003 support tools to see if any error messages pop up.

Re: Random access denied issues in Windows Server 2003

Thank you m80ram for your interest in my problem. I have run both netdiag and dcdiag but there were no errors apart from netdiag complaining about there was no default gateway. (netdiag and dcdiag results are attached). The event viewer shows couple of errors (EventID 1030, 105. After a restart the event viewer displays EventID 13516 in the File Replication Service.

I think the problem is related to SYSVOL being not shared probably, however i do not know how to fix it or what to do to prevent it from happening as it happens intermittently.

I hope that you can help me with this matter.

      Thanks.

Re: Random access denied issues in Windows Server 2003

verify the DFS client is turned on.

          regedit...

          HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Mup

          double-click "DisableDFS".

change the value to "0", assuming the value currently reads "1", which would = DFS is off.

then make sure that the "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" is in the network connection interface on the PC.

save yourself some headache and make sure there is nothing in any GPOs that are turning this feature off, otherwise youll be wasting your time...

ive had problems like this with R2, like the domain admin isnt a local admin on the box after joining the DC to the domain.. go figure

and if that works, feel free to karma me up... if not, post back and well get you hooked up.
its easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission.
