    Hi,

Situation: AD2003, XP Client and I'm still using WINS right now but I want to get rid of it. ( I'm also running Ghost Console Server)

If I don't run WINS then I can't browse for computers throught network neighborhood, can I ?

And what else to I expect ( bad things) for not running WINS.

    Please advise,

    Thanks in advance.

Although WINS is not a must in W2K/XP/Win2003 networks, unless you're willing to totally disable NetBIOS on all the computers, and live without the Network Neig. (by using mapped drives, published shares in AD and so on) then WINS is still a recommended option. It doesn't cost a dime, and getting rid of it won't make your network run faster in most cases.

If you still have some pre-W2K computers then WINS is almost a required must, otherwise you'll also get a lot of broadcast traffic during the logon phase.
    Cheers,
