  • adding hard drives to array

    we have a HP proliant DL380 exchange2003 server with 3 36gb hard drive array(raid5).
we have 3 additional 36gb hard drives and want to add them to the existing array.

I don't know much about doing this....

1)can we do this by simply inserting the 3 additional drives while windows2003 is running and then using the HP array config tool in win2003 to expand the array?
how long would you expect this to take?

2)Can it also be done by shutting down the server, inserting the drives, and accessing the scsi utility on startup before windows loads?

I cant remember if that servers drives are hot swappable. Probably safer to shutdown the server, add the additional hard drives and then configure the raid via the software before windows 2003 boots up.

Be carefull when adding to the array as you dont wanna screw up the original config
