  • USB hard-drive re-discovery

    hi,

I have a hard-drive(USB) connected to my PC. So lets say, I wanted to disconnect, so I clicked the task bar, right click, safely remote hardware etc, apply etc., but I do not physically disconnect the drive.

I now remember I want access again to the Hard-drive again etc. Is there a command-line command I can type in DOS prompt to rediscover the drive, rather than removing the USB and putting it back again.......as in I dont want to physically remove it, I just want it to be rediscovered.

    thanks

I don't know about a command but you could open up device manager, select your computer name, then from the top line menu select actions --> scan for hardware changes. That should scan all plug and play devices for you.

Search the internet for a file named "devcon"

      Then use :
      devcon [-m:\\<machine>] rescan
