  • create a document audit trail

one of my clients has asked me to create an audit trail of their filesystem so they can see who accesses documents and when. this is because they have some sensitive documents and they want to make sure if they end up in the wrong hands they know who had accessed them,

any ideas what is the best way to do this? is there a setting within Windows Server 2003 i can use to do this or is there another software package i can purchase instead?

any advice would be most appreciated as i am not sure where to go with this!

Re: create a document audit trail

You could try enabling auditing on the folders.

Its not the best option but it works.

There are also third party software writer that will do an audit trail for you but i can't recommend any because i've never used any.
