  • DNS server

    Hi,
How to move primary DNS server from one windows 2003 server to another 2003 server. we are running standard DNS servers and it is in AD 2003.
Idea is to move remove the old DNS server from the network after transfering the DNS role to a new server.

    Thanks
    Raj

    Re: DNS server

Are your zones Active Directory intergrated? If so then simply just build a new server with DNS, promote it to a Domain Controller and simply wait for replication to take place.

If this is not what your want then give us a little more info.

    Hope this helps

      Re: DNS server

      Thanks Michael.
the zones are not AD integrated.
We have this member server setup as primary DNS for the AD and I want to move it to another server and take the old one off the network.

        Re: DNS server

Build a new server and install DNS. Create a secondary zone for your domain namespace and initiate a zone transfer from the primary zone to the second zone. quickly decomission the old DNS server and promote the secondary zone to a primary zone. You also may want to create a secondard zone again to redundancy

        This should help you:
