  • Internet Explorer Not Working

    Hi

    I have this problem

On one of my servers the internet explorer stopped working.
Whenever I try to open a web site, I get this message :

Internet Explorer Cannot Download / from www.website.com
Internet explorer was not able to open this internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later.

The server is a 2003 server with sp2.
    IE version is 6

    I appreciate any help

    Thanks
    Yaniv

    Re: Internet Explorer Not Working

I think a bit more information is needed.

    - Do other servers / workstations have internet connectivity
    - Do you have a proxy server, is IE configured for this?
    - Can you ping your modem?

Just a few things that can narrow the problem down.

      Some more information

All other servers/ workstations work fine.
      No proxy
I can access the file system using IE
I can access ftp sites using IE.

When opening IE, you see a blank screen with nothing at the address line ( my home page is blank, but the address is not there)

        An update

The problem affect also outlook 2003
When I try to view a message, it doesn't show it in the reading pane
If I try to open the message, i get this error message:

"Can't open this item. The text formatting command is not available. It may not be installed correctly"

        So all html is corrupted

        Please advice

            Re: Internet Explorer Not Working

When you say both, what do you mean?

I've tried to repair outlook, but no success.
And internet explorer, how do I repair it?
            I can't uninstall it, I can't reinstall it ( or I can but don't know how )

It looks like someone wants me to go to IE 7...

All my other servers work fine and the faulty one is a terminal server.
So I can't have one with IE7 and the others TS with 6

            Please help

Don't know if this is a possible solution,
              link

The problem is, when you try to reinstall IE, i think he will grab IE7 from the net..
Or you should disable internet connection to that system, then he will probably take iE6 from the cd.

Does this happen with all webpages or just this one??

What has changed on the server recently??

Is this in IE6 that it has happened??

Have you checked youur proxy settings again just to check??

                  Can you ping the website??

                  Can you ping google??

                    Re: Internet Explorer Not Working

                    Hi

This happens with all web pages
Nothing really changed, I've upgraded to flash 9, and uninstall it.

                    There is no proxy

I've attached print screens of the problem
The first is a picture of IE when you open it.
                    http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...ng_gun/ie1.jpg

The second is after I tried to go to www.msn.com
                    http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...ng_gun/ie2.jpg

If I try to go to www.microsoft.com, I can see the IE translate the web site to it's address,
and then again a blank screen like in my first example.

Did you try system restore to the point before you installed the new flash plugin ?

Did you try clearing temp internet files ?

Did you try a spyware scan ?

Just giving some things i would do

How do I try the system restore option on a server 2003?

I tried scanning the server with the antivirus (NAVCE) and with adaware.
                        Both didn't found anything.

Do you recommend any other anti spyware tool?

                        Thanks

There is no system restore in Server 2003.

Try Spybot and see if that piks anything up.

Another thing you could try is to login as the machine administrator. Rename the domain profile and log back in as the user.

What do you mean " Rename the domain profile" ?

I'm logged on as the administrator, but the problem is affecting all users.

I'm not sure what you mean as all users. What do you mean???

Right i'm presuming you are logged in as the admnistrator of the domain. This will create a profile in the documents and settings folder.

Logout of the domain administrators account and login with another account.

Right click on the domain administrators profile and select rename.

Logon back in as the administrator. This will create a new profile while you still have the ability to get docs and such back.
