  • NIC teaming 100 or 1,000 on a svr

I was wondering, I've seen people hard code NICs on a server (should be done) but I was wondering about the speed. If you have a Gigabit NIC and also a Gigabit switch (but perhaps clients on a 100 Mbps connection) should you hard code to 1000 or 100?

Why do I sometimes see some people hard code the server NICs down to 100?

My preference for Gigabit to Gigabit is for each Gb interface to be configured to autonegotiate speed and duplex. Gb has much tighter negotiation protocols than fast ethernet did.

For Fast Ethernet, I hardcode to 100Mbps/Full Duplex.
