  • Windows 2003 Server Login Trouble

There was a Microsoft update that was asking for a disk. We could not find the right disk, so I cancelled the update. I rebooted the server and now when I enter the administrator password, it accepts the password, starts to log in and then kicks me back out to the login every time. Our worstation PC's are logging into the server and access all files and programs fine, I just can't log into the server. Please, anyone..HELP.

Is the server a Domain Controller, and is there only the one server?

Hmmmm...... Is this a legit copy of Server 2003?? Do you see a dialog box with just an exclamation mark or question mark and no text?

Re: Windows 2003 Server Login Trouble

I would suggest investigating the server remotely over the network from a PC. What do the 3 event logs say when the logon/logoff event happens?

If you can access the server remotely, don't forget one of your options is the System Restore function. Also, when you boot, pressing F8 will give you the menu options to go into Safe Mode. I would say that you have tried this and it does the same thing but have you tried the "Last Known Good Configuration" option to reconfigure the server back to when you last logged in successfully?

There is no system restore function in Server 2003.
