  • Veritas, wsus & ePO installation with SQL 2005

Can we use Symantec Veritas Backup Exec 10.0, WSUS & McAfee ePO with SQL 2005 server installed on Win2k3 R2 ? If yes, please post some useful links that help understanding more details.
    Thanks

ePO 3.6 won't run on SQL2005. You should use SQL 2000 or MSDE. Otherwise wait for ePO 4.x

      Thanks
Backup Exec uses MSDE and so does WSUS unless you're back ending Backup Exec and/or WSUS on SQL Server.

I know that you can install Backup Exec w/ MSDE engine and SQL Server 2000 on the same box but I have not tried with SQL Server 2005. I haven't tried throwing the WSUS MSDE instance into the mix though. That's three database instances that will hopefully all play well with each other.

I think what I would do in this situation is as long as you're running SQL Server on this box, then scrap the idea of using MSDE instances for Backup Exec and WSUS. Rather, use SQL as the back end for both of them. One instance of SQL, with a Backup Exec database, WSUS database, and any other database you want to house on SQL 2005. Least we forget the wonderful Northwinds database

Not sure about McAfee and what it uses.

        But i do.
The database currently can only be placed in MSDE of SQL2000. It depends on what version.
Like i said before, SQL2005 (express) is not yet supported.

If the TS searched a little bit he could find all the information.

Re: Veritas, wsus & ePO installation with SQL 2005

Do you know of any posible way to transfer Policies, Jobs, Media info, job setups and all backup related information from Win2003 server which has SQL2000 running as a database for Symantec Backup Exec 10d to a New Windows 2003 R2 which will run on either SQL2000 or SQL2005? Is there any 3rd party freeware tool available to do this migration?
          Thanks

Yes. There are both Microsoft and Veritas/Symantec knowledgebase articles on how to preserve the BE database for migration or backup/restore purposes.
