  • Proxy Authentication / 2003 Server Components

    Hi Guys,

We have a program that goes to the internet via the PROXY server.
From some reason we have a problem for few days that the program will not open the connection with the proxy, and a strange issue Internet Explorer will not ask for Proxy Authentication any more (usually it asked for a USER/PWD).

the Server is Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition.

I am almost sure it is related to the fact of uninstalling those components :

    * Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration
    * Update Root Certificates

But even trying to reinstall them does not work.
What are those actually, and how they affect the system?
How can i re establish the proxy authentication dialog ?

Reboot the server and so does not work.
If the browser (IE) will ask for Proxy Authentication i think i overcome the problem.

    Thanks, Retaliator.
    Thanks & Regards

Your not accessing the server using the Server 2003 box are you??

If not then have you cleared the IE cache on the affected system??

      Hi,

I do not understand the question,
I am trying to access the proxy from that specific Windows 2003 Server.
And i have cleared IE History and deleted temporary files.

What i am essentially asking is why are you using a server as a workstation.

Does the application workif you try it from a 'normal' (2000 pro, XP pro) workstation??

I am not using a server as a workstation,
this server is really important for the place i am working in,
it's a SERVER not a workstation, and one of the roles is to go to a specific HTTP.

It works from other places, other workstations or servers.

So what happens when you re-install Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration??

Have you made any other changes to the site??

Is the proxy internal or external??

The only thing i can think of is that you have asked Windows to save the password for the site.

So someone has to use the server as a workstation to get to the specific website.

I'm not disputing the fact that the SERVER is a SERVER but being a SERVER it shouldn't need to do things like browse the web. If the shortcut/ proxy access works from workstations then why does the server NEED to access a specific HTTP??

Re: Proxy Authentication / 2003 Server Components

The server needs to open a web connection to a specific WEB page,
but the program does not work because it does not show any connection to the proxy, the proxy is external, as it is not local here and not in my hands.
i just tested IE to see if it is asking for user/pwd but it's not, unlike other servers or workstations.

What version of IE do you have??

It may be that it has been added to your 'Trusted Sites' and all it needs is removed.
