    Backing up User Database

I have a Windows2000 Server which is completely fubar. I can't add machines to the domain I can't promote another server. Attempting all this generates nothing in the event log.

Finally I have come to the conclusion my best bet is to reformat and re-install. The problem is I need to copy my user database to the new installation. All users/permissions/groups etc.

How can I do this? I don't want to copy the whole registry as I don't want to copy my problems over too.

    Thanks.

The problem is that I don't get anything in the eventviewer. netdiag shows everything is just hunky dorry. I haven't tried dcdiag but I am guessing it will pass there too.

As I say the very strange thing is that netdiag is fine everything shows the thing is fine but the eventviewer logs no error and netdiag shows everything up as being fine. When I am next able to I will get the results of dcdiag but right now I really need some sort of solution.

maybe it's a better idea to look at you're problems first...
    then repair those..
reinstalling will cause new SID's for the users and groups etcetc.., so the permissions will not be copied...

or you should try to migrate the users, or fixing you're problems..

please give us you're problems (eventviewers, dcdiag, netdiag etcetc) and maybe we can help you
