  • IIS on 2k3 Terminal Server

    Hi,

My 2K3 is only running as a Terminal Server with no ADS.

Will configuring IIS on 2k3 server, improve web surfing experience.

I mean does IIS also function as a Proxy Server like Squid and provide caching, site restrictions, user based policy settings etc.

If so, pls point me to a good online resource to configure IIS for a proxy setup.

I did try to google this, but I land up with so many sites offering paid books or microsoft.com pages which are too technical. Hence seeking help from forum members.

    Thank you in advance.

    regards,
    Sandeep

Short answer - NO. IIS is only a webserver, nothing else. If you want a Windows based caching proxy install ISA Server.

Squid and ISA don't have the same feature set, so it's hard to compare them mostly due to differing operating environments. ISA can do most things Squid can and vise versa. One thing I've noticed is that ISA lacks a per user naitive bandwidth controls, but Squid supports it. ISA has AV support, Squid does not (AFAIK). Anyway, IIS won't do what you want.
