  • Migrating DFS to other server not using MS Migr. Toolkit

As I posted my problem for AD (http://forums.petri.com/showthread.php?t=12741), you will notice that our DFS needs to be moved.

So, I am going to use robocopy to mirror the files and their NTFS settings.
    But then?
How am I going to move the DFS Root?

Replication links is something I can understand. But it almost looks like killing the current root link in order to move it.

How do you move the root link from (eg.) the current server to another so that I can kill the old server permanently?

Thanks in advance for any reply!

Here are some links that may hold promise:

    http://ms.helifan.net/windowsserver2...es/dfsfaq.mspx -- search for "move"

    http://www.minasi.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=18077

    Hope these help.
    Cheers,

    Rick

Too bad my "example" is not there. But at least it mentioned a lot of details which might help me further!
We will make a system state backup, kill the root link and setup the same rootlink (the name) on the other server after a few hours.
Then we'll see if we can get it running.
Else we will need to restore the system state and back to the drawing board.
