  • I need to Remote Desktop into a 2000 Server

Is this possible? We've got two servers and the 2003 Server I can get into no problem but I don't know if this is even possible with 2000 Server.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Of course it does.
Is the Terminal Server component installed in your server? Take a look at the attached screenshot.
    Articles worth reading @Microsoft:
    - TS on Windows 2000: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...s/default.mspx
    - Securing TS on Win2000: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../secw2kts.mspx
    - How to install TS on Win2000: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306624
    Certain are many others...
Hope this info helped. Good luck. And keep the forum posted.

Actually, it wasn't. After doing some more research I realized that I was searching Microsoft for "remote access" instead of "remote desktop" and wasn't finding squat. So, I installed Terminal Services and a little later when there's not activity on that server I'll reboot it and hopefully I'm in business.

I'll be reading the link on securing the server but another question: This server is behind a firewall which acts as a DHCP server. So, the 2000 Server has no IP address that is accessible from outside the firewall, as far as I know. This connection will be used specifically for the billing people to post as the Server is in another physical location. With this in mind the Server is actually as secure as the firewall makes everything else within, correct?

      Thanks,

      Mike

        Mike,

RRAS and Remote desktop are two seperate utilities.

As for your network topology, I am not clear from your description.

A firewall can be configured to allow certain traffic through and forward it to the IP of your server. Again, the more information you can provide, the better.
