  • Windows Server 2003 DC transfer

I am having a Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition as my Domain Controller. I want to remove it and make another Server as my DC with the same Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition OS. After joining to the new server to the existing domain, do I need to run forestprep and domainprep or I can simply transfer FSMO roles only?

    Please Help!

No, you dont have to run forest prep / domain prep as your domain is already at windows 2003. You only need to do this when installing your first 2003 DC in a 2000 domain

Simply add the new server to the network and then dcpromo it. Once it's a DC wait for it to replicate and then transfer the FSMO roles:

Hope this is what your looking for.

Any other question then let us know

    Thanks
