  • Running Server2k3 R2 without needing the CDs

=== THIS IS NOT A WAREZ REQUEST! ===

I'm about to build several Server 2k3 R2 machines in the very near future - some of which will be offisite. I need the ability to install Windows Components - like DNS, DHCP, etc., etc. - without having to feed machines CDs all the time.

I know that with W2k Pro and earlier there was a "sourcepath" key in the registry that I could munge to point the path for installation files anywhere I wanted. Windows XP does this by default (or something very similiar). But Server 2k3 R2 always screams for the CDs when I go to add features.

Is there a way that I can copy the files on the CDs (especially the second disk) to a network storage locations and point the Server 2k3 machine to that place for additional features?

No, I've not yet looked for the "sourcepath" registry key yet, but as soon as my Server 2k3 Virtual Machine gets finished building I will.

    Thanks in advance,

      G'day ScatterBrain,
When I was learning MCSE, I used to add or remove services lot. Some times I feel lazy to put my windows 2003 cd in rom. So what I did I copied folder i386 from Windows 2003 into one of my computer. When ever during installation computer asked me for CD I used to point to location where i stored i386 folder. Try by your self. It would help you.
