  • Child domain troubles

    Hi all,

I've got an issue with a child domain within my company and am just wondering if someone can point me in the right direction...

We used to have a happy connection between a parent and child domain on our company network. A fair while ago, someone in our dept decided to move the child onto it's own seperate network, breaking the parent child link. Instead of fixing the link, he then went and removed from the parent all references to the child (I'm assuming he used ntdsutil). So we're now left with two domains, a Parent domain which is quite happy doing it's thing and a Child domain which is always grumbling about not being able to communicate with it's Parent.

This has been like this for around 5 years now and I'd like to make the child domain just a standalone seperate domain without destroying the current objects we have in AD.

Is there any way to promote a child domain to a standalone domain without killing my AD?

Cheers in advance for any help
