  • 2003 DNS Entry issue

Hi guys - its been a while since i done any DNS entries manually and am struggling to get something sorted out. I know this is simple but I just cant seem to get it to work - so here goes with the fault description.

we have a web application running on a 2003 box - instead of accessing via the boxes ip address, i want users to be able to access it as http://snttest - the ip of this is and the box name is as-occ49

i have entered a host record for snttest to the address
from a cmd prompt i can ping snttest and get the correct address back

when i open explorer and http://snttest i get app-page not authorised.
when i i get the app-page up no problems

what am i doing wrong !!!!
    Any help appreciated

    Re: 2003 DNS Entry issue

Create a CNAME record called snttest and point it to the A-host record of the web server where the applicaiton is running.

      Re: 2003 DNS Entry issue

      Thankyou for the swift responce.

I approached the dev team, and they hadnt yet given out permissions for the iis-application. so hence the not authorised to view page message.

I did however go back and take my A records out and implemented your method of CNAME/Alias pointing to the machine in question. All worked a treat !!

      Once again - thanks !!

I regularly pop-in hope I can give some assistance back soon !!!
