  • Sharing and Security permission

    hi friends

    I have an issue,

There is a folder shared in fileserver. How to restrict a user to access the file inthe folder from the client PC, and can modify and save the file in server only. He SHOULDNOT able to save in his local PC .

Which sharing and security permission i should enable for the folder?

pls advise.. the file server is 2003 enterprise with NTFS..

      hi,,

issue is the file Server is part of a doman.. xyz.com

user from xyz.com access the file server from the LAN PC which is XP pro.

The shared folders have configured for permissions to some users to access the file with read and write.

I face an issue that the user can save a copy of a file in his local PC, which is a security flaw i think.

I should avoid him to save a file from the shared folder to his PC and i should allow him to read and wite the file and save the file in the server itself..

Any idea from where i can enable perssion to avoid saving a copy in the local PC..

Sorry but there is no permission for that. I don't know if a third party app could do it either. If someone has developed a way to do what you're asking, then you still have the problem that people can still manually copy the data from the file onto their local PC or even paper for that matter! What I suggest you do is get some trustworthy people in the positions where sensitive data must be viewed.

Enable auditing and then you could check if the file is been saved elsewhere. Remove HDD from workstation and run dumb terminals.

If a user has read access then they will be able to copy them.

I know squat about Terminal Services, but is it possible to set it up with TS so the user can't save to the local PC?
