  • Can't access PC on another subnet.q

    I have two machines:
    * RXSYDSRV running Windows 2003 Server on IP 192.168.0.2
    * IT_MANGER_DELL running WinXP SP2 on IP 192.64.10.5

    They are connected via VPN between firewalls (corporate VPN- always connected). RXSYDSRV is in our satellite office in Sydney and we are in Melbourne where the Domain Controller is located.

    I am trying to access a share on IT_MANAGER_DELL from RXSYDSRV. I ran a Search for Computers and found IT_MANAGER_DELL, and it found it. But when I d-click on it, I get the msg:

    \\IT_MANAGER_DELL is not accessible. You do not have permission to use this network resource.......

    I am logged into RXSYDSRV as the domain admin which has access to all workstations. RXSYDSRV is our replicating domain controller in the satellite office.

    I can ping IT_MANAGER_DELL OK. I tried NET VIEW \\JLRX01 (our domain controller) which works OK. But NET VIEW \\IT_MANAGER_DELL gives error 53- Network Path Not Found. NET VIEW \\RXSYDSRV works on IT_MANAGER_DELL OK.

    All firewalls are turned off on IT_MANAGER_DELL.

    Re: Can't access PC on another subnet.q

    Try using start->run
    \\computername\c$ than you will be prompted for computers local admin pass.

    if you dont know local admin pasword then use computer management console to connect remotely to computer then create user with admin rights and try again to connect \\computername\c$, use username/pass you created and you go in.

      I get the error "No network provider accepted the given network path".

      I tried the Computer Manager from RXSYDSRV and I get the error "xxx can not be managed. The network path was not found".

      Nothing seems to be working.

        I went to our Sydney office yesterday and connected my notebook to their network via DHCP, and all the computers on that network could see my notebook (IT_MANAGER_DELL) OK.

        So where is my problem? Why is it that when I'm in Head Office in Melbourne, that the computers in sydney (RXSYDSRV is one) can not see my notebook?

        Note. I changed my notebook from a fixed IP (192.64.10.5) to DHCP (192.64.10.59) when I got back to the Melbourne office and tried once again to ping IT_MANAGER_DELL from RXSYDSRV, and again it could not find my notebook.

          What kind of firewall do you use - Isa Servers?
          Coud problem be result of any filtration in firewall?
          Did you try to change IP address of your notebook?
          Can other computers see each others betwen two VPN sites?
          Is IT_MANAGE_DELL domain member?
          Do you have Local Administrator password in IT_MANAGER_DELL?

            It's working now. Looks like it was an ISA Server config problem. Thanks.

              A N D what did you do to the ISA server to get it to work? You answer may help others.
              1 1 was a racehorse.
              2 2 was 1 2.
              1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
              2 2 1 1 2

                Sure. I had setup the 192.168.0.x subnet as a seperate network. I ended up putting this subnet into the "internal" network and it fixed the problem. Thanks.

                  Thank you, AND you got a trip to Sydney, although that may be seen as more of a punishment.
