  • Default web site will not start

I have an SBS 2003 box that has an issue with the default web site not starting. When you attempt to start, a message appears that says the following:

"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"

    Any ideas?

      Hi,

Also, make sure that the port which is used by Default WebSite, is not being used by another site, Restart the IIS and try. If not, then as shai tsanani suggested, uninstall IIS and reinstall it once again.

Thanks for the fast response but I actually figured out the issue. It appears that a propietary software program the client had on the server was running Apache and that accounted for port 80 being already in use. As soon as Apache was stopped...viola!

Apachee and IIS on an SBS server. Huummm... talk about a cheap client...

Remove Apache (or Apachee!) - good start

But before you remove IIS you had better read and DO this:
                http://msmvps.com/blogs/bradley/arch.../21/96452.aspx

                and THIS:
                http://msmvps.com/blogs/bradley/arch.../15/66492.aspx
and, BTW, don't be surprised if your Exchange doesn't actually work:

                http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320202/

Did I mention that you could also use swing migration to completely reinstall the whole server.
Ahhh, well, you had nothing planned for the holiday weekend/chagim anyway, did you?
                TIA
