  • wrong server name resolution from 98 client after VPN

    hi!

    background:

    last week i enabled (big mistake) the vpn in our win2k isa server
    (i went to "Isa managment" right click on Network configuration then "allow VPN client connection")

    Symptoms:

    from that point some clients computer that trying to ping the server name SRV2000
    getting the wrong IP!!?? instead replying 192.168.0.1 its show me 192.168.0.37
    but somtimes its back & i am able to ping srv2000 then its goes ...

    C:\>ping srv2000

    Pinging SRV2000 [192.168.0.37] with 32 bytes of data.
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.

    server info:

    server name: srv2000
    IP address: 192.168.0.1
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    GW:
    Dns server: 192.168.0.1
    Wins Server: 192.168.0.1

    i disable RRAS,no entry for 192.168.0.37 in DNS & DHCP

    please help

    If you mean, SBS and not vanilla Win2K, then you should be using the Wizard in the admin console (this is becoming a mantra) to set up the VPN.
    And if you have no good reason to be working on W98 then you deserve all you get ;>)
