  • Can't Join Client to Domain in SBS 2003

    Hi Guys,

I just installed SBS 2003 and i want to add my clients to the Domain but I can't, even I can't ping the SBS Server becuase of the ISA 2004.

Is there any configuration that has to be done in ISA 2004 in order to ping the Server DNS and joining the client to the Domain?

I'm new in ISA, please help.

When joining, are you doing it manually or using the Wizard?

As for ISA, here is an excellent CBT for learning ISA2004. The instructor is a leader in his field and an all round good guy!! I can personally reccomend this product.

        Hi Guys,

No, I didn't add any new rule. Could you tell me which Protocols I should add to allow others to:

        1. Use the Internet.
        2. Joining Domain
        3. Using Exchange Server
        4. Renewing DHCP Leased IP.

Very good Thank you in Advance.

Have you run the CEICW wizard? That does all the configuration you need for e-mail and Internet. Add clients use the add user and/or add computer wizard. Then as it tells you at the end of the wizard, run //<server>/connectcomputer to join the domain, set a home directory, optionally redirect the My Documents folder to the server, allow remote access to the computer etc.
          TIA

Re: Can't Join Client to Domain in SBS 2003

            teiger,

What is the CEICW? Actually, I don't want to redirect My Documents to the Server. What i need is to Allow access to certain ports via ISA 2004. Now ISA 2004 is blocking everything for me including the internet, Renewing the Leased IP, Exchange. Making me crazy and worse

My Setup is witho two NIC:

            ISP >> ADSL Router 10.0.0.1 >>Hub >> External NIC 10.0.0.2 /24 D.Gateway 10.0.0.1 DNS 192.168.1.1.

Another Internal NIC: 192.168.1.1/24 without Gatway DNS: 192.168.1.1.

Now, DHCP should prrovide which D.Gateway to the users? is it 10.0.0.1 which is different subnet than 192.168.1.1 ?

Another Hub is from ADSL Router >>> Users.

How the Setup of the ISA would be done in my Scenario?

            Thanks,

            Habibalby

Re: Can't Join Client to Domain in SBS 2003

Run the integrated Setup from CD1
Mark all of the Server Management options to be (Re-)installed and all teh client options as well for good measure.
I have to wonder how people get in to these situations sometimes! To install SBS all you have to do is put the first CD in your computer and let it install. DON'T try to install it like Windows 2003 and/or Exchange 2003. You just make sure you have a big enough partition on C: to start with and install it. There are now about 6 CD's if you have integrated SP1 and Premium Edition (not counting Front Page). after you have fed in CD1, CD2,CD3, CD4 (Outlook) etc you have to "manually" feed the next CD for Premium version - best reading the document on steps to install premium technologies which is RIGHT THERE on the Autorun.
When all is finished you have a ToDo list in Server Management which includes CEICW wizard, Add Printer Wizard, Add User Wizard and Add Computer Wizard.
                      It doesn't get any simpler!
After you have installed it all on C: and see how it works - WIPE IT OUT and start again creating partitions and putting things like the Users folders and Exchange Folders on D: (remember to rename the CD/DVD drive to X: or such). That is how to learn SBS and avoid getting in to these situations.
                      TIA

                        HI Sir,

The problem is I have installed the SBS 2003 from 3 CDs only. I didn't get the reset of the CD's. But after the installation is completed, I got the icon Continue Setup. I have ran this setup and it continues the installation of SQL and the reset.

When it comes to the Server Management utility it didn't ask for it's CD it continues the installation and it success at the end.

But now I want to see the Server Management, I can't see it. Do i have to Re-run the setup again to be able to get the Server Management and other utilities? and ToDoList as well?

                        Thanx,

                        Habibalby

You can use Add/Remove Programs on SBS server to do just that. But go back to your supplier and find out why only 3 CD's unless you are using Action Pack/Technet/MSDN or such.

I can't see the Server Management as part of Windows Components to be able to reinstall it.

As part of ISA concern using Twp Nic's, here's my LAN Setup and I need your recommendation to be able to:

                              1. Join clients to Domain.
                              2. Browes the Net.
                              4. Cached Which is done by default.
                              5. Proxy Server
                              6. Some users restriction later I can find it.

                              My LAN Setup is:
