  • Recipients email is mis-spelt upon reply

    I have a very strange problem.
    Its in an SBS 2011 environment, with the clients running Windows 7 Pro and outlook 2010.
    There is a particular external recipient that users often communicate with, their email is in the format:

    Email comes in from this recipient without issue, and new emails can be composed and sent to the recipient without issue.

    However, if internal users "reply" directly to an email from this recipient, the email is miss-formated and appears as follows:

    Yes, it misses out an "i" from the email address.

    Things I have tried:

    1.deleted the email completely from autocomplete address list, then closed and re-opened outlook.

    2.replied to the correct email address, but copied myself (an external address) in as well. then tried "reply all" from my external address and confirmed that it formated the address correctly.

    3.checked for any external contacts in exchange - there are none.

    4.spoke to the users, and apparently all users within this organization have the same problem sending to this recipient.

    Hmm, even as I am typing this, I am wondering if it would be the recipients end, he is maybe using outlook, and has miss-formated his reply to address?

    Could that be the case, and if so, would that not show up somewhere our end?

    Check the SMTP headers on an email you received from him and see what shows in the "reply-to" field.

        OK, so I read the message headers as per this article:

        http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/ou...001230300.aspx

        Heres a snippet from the headers (with confidential data obscured):

        Code:
        Date: Thu, 30 Jan 2014 03:51:23 -0800
        From: Jsmith <[email protected]>
        Reply-To: Jsmith <[email protected]>
        Subject: Fw: EN7999/E8
        To: Recipient <[email protected]>
        In-Reply-To: <[email protected]>
        MIME-Version: 1.0
        Content-Type: multipart/alternative;
        	boundary="178851755-1006144440-xxxxx"
        Return-Path: [email protected]
        Of course, I can see the Reply-To field is incorrectly spelt, does that mean that the sender has some information incorrectly configured?

          It's on the sender's end. They probably have a typo in their Outlook config or something like that.
