  • DHCP and AD giving up on SBS 2003 but no errors found

    Hi There,

long story short, a customer rang and said they cannot access internet
for some unknow reason, client cannot get DHCP from SBS03

relocate DHCP to a modem, set all conf such as domain, etc correctly
unable to access share folders, keep saying un-authorised access even with correct uname/pass

put DHCP back to SBS, did a test with DHCP rouge test

    http://blogs.technet.com/b/teamdhcp/...detection.aspx

nothing found, not a good result

currently I have set static IP to each clients so it can access inet, but stil no access to share folders

event viewer did not show any errors or even warning

clueless how to do any test or anything useful

tried just connect the server and a client, no modem or anything else, same dead end result

Thanks in advance for any info

There are only three problems with AD - DNS, DNS and DNS.
Have you checked and tested your DNS?

      hi teiger,

thanks for your reply. Yes, I notice something wrong as well with the DNS. When I move DHCP server to a modem, there is a delay when ping server with netbios, but ok with direct IP.

That is why Im abit concetrate on DHCP because I was hoping if I fix DHCP, it might resolve other thing. DHCP should just work because its only role is giving out IP right?

What sort of test I should do on the server for its DNS? no error on event viewer and its binding correct IP address (all available IP)

      Cheers

        perfoming
        DCDIAG /s:serversbs /v /c

all ok, no error at all ....

        uninstall DHCP, restart
install DHCP, configure scope, etc ...
same result, no client can connect, no DHCP server avail on network

        can anyone help?
