  • Making a Synology NAS member of SBS 2011?

    Hi,

As far as I know you can not make a server a member of SBS 2011 standard, but can you make a Synology NAS a member of a SBS 2011 domain?
It works fine with my SBS 2003.
I have no idea if SBS sees it as a workstation or a server and I am at the point of buying SBS 2011.

    Gr,
    SnijdeA.
    Regards,
    SnijdeA.

Don't synology's have the option of either joining domain or staying as workgroup?
Also, is that right that sbs 2011 can't have a member server? I know in sbs 2003 it had to be PDC...

Yes and I am talking about the domain membership.

SBS 2003 had to be a domain controller, it didn't prevent one from installing another DC or member server.

I can't find anything about SBS 2011 having a problem with other member servers being joined to the domain. It would be very weird if it had, as there is no real difference between a member server and a workstation other than the OS version.

SBS (any version) has absolutely no problem with
          a) member servers in the domain
          b) other DCs (provided it holds the FSMOs)

Have you reviewed the Synology FAQs re domains:

Hmm, I have read somewhere that SBS 2011 standard doesn't allow another server to be part of the domain, guess that is not true.
            Thanks.

Yes, I have my NAS already working as a member of my SBS 2003 environment.
