  • Site server using RRAS DNS issues

    Hi,

I've got a SBS 2011 in the main office, and I joined a second site server with Server 2008 R2 to it.

I originally set it up on the same subnet, and now moved it off to a different site, so set up a persistent VPN connection using RRAS which connects fine.

However, in order fot the vpn site-site connection to work, I obviously use a different subnet at the site office. I changed the ip address of the 2008 server to the appropriate subnet, moved it in ADSS, and although it connects fine, and the SBS server pings the correct ip address, for some reason other computers on the domain at the Main office, when pinging the "Siteserver" ping the wrong IP address.

Sometimes they ping the VPN ip addresses, but more often than not, the wrong ones.

    Any ideas?

Can you explain in a bit more detail, with examples if possible?

Re: Site server using RRAS DNS issues

      Well, connection appears fine...

Ping from Main server to siteserver replies with correct internal ip address. so this direction is fine.

Ping from Site server to mainserver times out with correct internal ip address.

Could it be the gateway setting? what should this be set to on the site server?

Re: Site server using RRAS DNS issues

Can you post an IPCONFIG/ALL and a ROUTE PRINT from both servers (and perhaps from a client on the sub site)?

Re: Site server using RRAS DNS issues

Well, some playing about has allowed me to ping from both directions, but still pinging the DNS Name from either site takes pot luck as to whether it pings the physical ip address, or one provided by rras...

How can I force everything on either network (Site or main) to always resolve the DNS as the physical ip addresses?
