  • Email Delivery takes 20 to 40 minutes SBS 2011 Exchange 2010

Everyone is using Outlook 2010, with a mixture of XP Pro and Win 7 Pro. Some users emails are delivered to their inbox with a 20 to forty minute delay. I checked the email headers using MX Toolbox and found the emails seems to be sitting on the server. I don't see anything stuck in the queues.

All clients are using cached exchange mode. And the same thing happens with OWA and their iPhones. No one is using POP or IMAP.

I am not that familiar with Exchange 2010. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Sounds strange but in the past the issues I have had with Exchange on an SBS server has been due to there not being 10% or more of space on the server.

I wish it was. I just checked OS drive has 800 GB free, and Exchange drive has 400 GB free.

      Any other ideas?

      Thanks!

Are these emails being sent from one internal user to another internal user or are they emails being sent from an external user to an internal user?

External emails are the only ones having issues. Internal is working fine.

          Thanks!

There isn't a whole lot you can do about external emails. Turn on Protocol Logging on your Receive connector, send a test email from an external user to an internal user and then check the log. Based on the timestamp of the log entry for the test email you'll know if it's an external or internal problem. If it's an external problem there isn't much you can do other than to make sure your external DNS records (the MX and A records for the Exchange server) are resolving correctly and in a timely manner.

I am pretty sure it is an internal problem. Here is a header I ran through MXtoolbox.com
