  • SBS2003->Exch2010, Uninstall Exchange?

    Having migrated from SBS2003 to Exchange 2010, there are some articles on the Internet that suggest I should uninstall Exchange from the SBS2003 server.

    Is it necessary to uninstall Exchange 2003 from the SBS box?

    The stage I am at is that I am just about to move the FSMO roles then demote SBS so as to remove it gracefully from Active Directory. But I am anxious about whether I should uninstall Exchange 2003 from the SBS box first. This site: http://demazter.wordpress.com/2010/0...ndows-2008-r2/ suggests I should uninstall in step 11.

    Thank you for your advice.
    Best wishes,
    PaulH.

    Yes, you should gracefully remove Exchange 2003 from the old SBS box.

    The Exchange 2010 knows at present that the Exchange 2003 server is part of the Exchange Org. Not removing it gracefully can lead to mail flow issues later on. Also demoting a DC with Exchange still on it (whilst theoretically possible) is never a good idea and could cause all manner of issues.

    I use the Technet article for this

      Thanks Cruachan, that's a great explanation, I always like to know why (as well as the fact that I have to do it).
